School transportation is not merely about picking up children from their homes and taking them to school. It is a responsibility that involves a structured, accountable, and safety-oriented process.
With the objective of strengthening this process, enhancing the professionalism of drivers, and ensuring a more responsible and reliable school transport service, discussions were held today with relevant authorities. The meeting focused on the implementation of draft regulations already prepared by the National Transport Commission, as well as the introduction of new laws, regulations, and additional measures to improve school transport safety.
The discussion was attended by Minister Bimal Rathnayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, and officials from the National Transport Commission. The parties emphasized the urgent need to enforce regulations and introduce reforms to ensure the safety and well-being of schoolchildren, recognizing that children are a shared responsibility of the entire society.
