Addressing the gathering, the President emphasised that a country’s stability is determined by its economic strength. He stated that the Government has succeeded in stabilising an economy that had previously collapsed due to bribery, corruption and poor economic management. He further noted that the Government’s primary objective is to ensure that the benefits of economic progress reach the most vulnerable segments of society.

Highlighting recent economic achievements, it was noted that 2025 has recorded the highest export earnings and foreign remittances in Sri Lanka’s history. According to the President, the gains made across multiple sectors have been channelled back to the public through significant salary increases for public servants, allowances for school supplies, and the expansion of welfare programmes such as Aswesuma.

The President also stated that Rs. 500 billion has been allocated to restore livelihoods affected by Cyclone Ditwah. Under this programme, Rs. 5 million has been allocated for each fully damaged house, alongside assistance for partially damaged homes and affected businesses.

Looking ahead, the President described the current year as a decisive period for strengthening the rule of law in the country. He announced plans to introduce new legislation aimed at eliminating bribery and corruption and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to taking firm action against offenders, regardless of their status.
Concluding his remarks, President Dissanayake invited all citizens to join in building an efficient, corruption-free public service and a just society.
