Initiated as a concept of the George Keyt Foundation, Kala Pola has received continuous sponsorship from the John Keells Group since 1994. Over the years, it has evolved into a distinctive cultural event that has transformed Sri Lanka’s visual arts exhibition and appreciation landscape.
From its inception, Kala Pola has followed an uncurated format, allowing participating artists and sculptors complete freedom to showcase their creativity. The platform enables artists to connect directly with art lovers, exchange knowledge with fellow creators, and sell their artworks without restrictions.
Kala Pola offers a unique opportunity to experience a wide range of classical and contemporary artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and other creative expressions, all within a single open space. The exhibition also features live music, interactive discussions, art talks, children’s art workshops, and various cultural activities.
Art enthusiasts, collectors, students, and tourists from across Sri Lanka and around the world attend Kala Pola each year, making it one of the most well-attended annual art events in the country. It continues to serve as a rare open platform where both established and emerging artists come together in the heart of Colombo.
