The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, will get underway with Sri Lanka playing their opening match against Ireland today (8) at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
This tournament marks the 10th edition of the ICC T20 World Cup, the shortest and most exciting format of the game, which continues to attract global attention for its fast-paced and entertaining nature.
The majority of matches in the tournament will be hosted in India, with games scheduled to be played in Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will host matches in Colombo and Pallekele, with three international stadiums being used for the event.
The tournament will consist of 55 matches, including the final. Of these, 20 matches are scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka, according to the organizers. However, if Pakistan qualifies for the semi-finals and the final, the number of matches hosted by Sri Lanka is expected to increase to 22.
A total of 20 teams will compete in the tournament. Sri Lanka has been placed in Group B, alongside Australia, Ireland, Oman, and Zimbabwe.
