A police constable attached to the Bhagawanthalawa Police Station was seriously injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon by another officer from the same station while he was asleep in the police barracks.
The injured constable was admitted to the Dickoya Base Hospital early this morning (07) for treatment.
According to reports, an altercation had taken place between the two police officers inside the police station last night (06). It has been revealed that both officers were heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Hatton Divisional Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pradeep Weerasekara said that following the dispute, one of the constables attacked the other while he was sleeping, stabbing him in the stomach with a sharp weapon.
The SSP further said that a formal investigation will be conducted into the incident, and the suspect police officer will be arrested and produced before the Hatton Magistrate’s Court.
