Sri Lanka witnessed a significant rise in foreign remittances in January 2026, with overseas workers sending a total of USD 751.1 million to the country, according to the latest report from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The report notes that remittances in January 2025 amounted to USD 573.0 million, indicating a year-on-year increase of USD 178.1 million.
In addition to remittances, the country also earned USD 378.3 million in tourism revenue during the same month, highlighting a robust start to the year for Sri Lanka’s foreign income inflows.
