Originally constructed in 1988 with Chinese support, the Supreme Court complex has now been upgraded after more than three decades to meet contemporary judicial needs while preserving its original architectural character and structural integrity.
The modernization includes seven new Supreme Court courtrooms accommodating single-judge, three-judge, five-judge, and seven-judge benches, along with 20 new official chambers for judges. Additional facilities include staff amenities, elevators, a modern library, a case records room, an auditorium, and a control room equipped with an automated camera system covering the entire complex.
The upgraded complex is expected to enhance the efficiency, security, and functionality of judicial proceedings, strengthening Sri Lanka’s judicial system and its capacity to serve the public effectively.
