Speaking to the YouTube channel Aviation Voice on the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow 2026, Sirisena said he is closely studying helicopter technology and global aviation trends, with the aim of bringing advanced aircraft to Sri Lanka in the near future.
Sirisena, a regular visitor to the Singapore Airshow, said the country’s rapid recovery in tourism has created fresh opportunities in the aviation sector. He noted that improved air connectivity and modern aircraft would support both tourism and related industries.
The 10th edition of the biennial Singapore Airshow opened on Tuesday (3), marking Asia’s largest aviation gathering. More than 1,000 companies are taking part, including industry leaders Airbus and Boeing, Singapore’s ST Engineering, and several emerging defence and drone-focused firms, despite ongoing global supply chain challenges.
During the interview, a newly unveiled helicopter by Bell Textron Inc. was on display nearby. Referring to it, Sirisena said while the model reflects the latest in aviation technology, his ambition is to go even further.
“I have achieved many of my dreams through hard work and sacrifice,” he said. “My next goal is to bring a helicopter that meets and exceeds the latest standards, and I hope to make that happen soon.”
