Ms Jayarathna, who previously served as the most senior female Deputy Auditor General at the National Audit Office, received the unanimous approval of the Constitutional Council for her appointment at its meeting held on 03 February.
Her appointment is particularly significant as she becomes the first woman to hold the office of Auditor General in Sri Lanka.
Following the retirement of the former Auditor General, Mr. Chulantha Wickramaratne, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake nominated the most senior Deputy Auditor General, Ms Jayarathna , from the National Audit Office, to the Constitutional Council, to fill the vacant position.
Ms Jayarathna holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Special) degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and the Association of Public Finance Accountants of Sri Lanka.
