A Sri Lankan passenger who attempted to smuggle a consignment of the drug “Kush,” valued at approximately Rs. 21.16 million, through the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, was arrested by officers of the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau in the early hours today (6).

The suspect is a 26-year-old businessman from Manipay who frequently travels overseas. He arrived at Katunayake Airport from Bangkok, Thailand, at around 12.35 a.m. on Thai Airways flight TG-307.

During an inspection, officers обнаружed 2 kilograms and 116 grams of “Kush” concealed in two packets hidden in a false bottom of the suspect’s suitcase.

Further investigations revealed that two other individuals were waiting near a supermarket in Negombo to transport the drugs to the Mannar area. Acting on this information, officers arrested the two suspects in the early hours of February 6.

The additional suspects are residents of Mannar—a 43-year-old technician and a 36-year-old driver.

All three suspects are due to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court on February 6, while further investigations are ongoing.
