Sri Lanka marked a historic milestone today as Samudika Jayaratne officially assumed duties as the Auditor General at the National Audit Office, becoming the first woman to hold the prestigious post.
Jayaratne takes office as the 42nd Auditor General of Sri Lanka, bringing with her more than two decades of experience in public service and financial governance.

A seasoned professional, she has extensive expertise spanning banking, finance, insurance, taxation, treasury operations, and debt management. Her career began at the Auditor General’s Department in 2003, where she steadily rose through the ranks.

Over the years, Mrs.Jayaratne has served in key roles across multiple government institutions, earning recognition for her technical proficiency, strong leadership, and commitment to public accountability.

Her appointment is widely seen as a significant step forward for gender representation in Sri Lanka’s public sector and a milestone in the country’s governance history.
