A two-day workshop aimed at raising awareness on the government’s future direction for the cooperative movement and preparing a national action plan was recently held at the National Cooperative Development Institute in Polgolla.
The programme was organized by the Department of Cooperative Development and brought together key stakeholders representing the cooperative sector from across the island.
Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, Deputy Minister of Cooperative Development Upali Samarasinghe, and Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security R.M. Jayawardena attended the workshop.
Commissioners, chairmen, secretaries and representatives of various service cooperative societies nationwide also participated in the sessions.
The workshop focused on fostering dialogue, sharing sector experiences and formulating strategic measures required for the future development of the cooperative movement. Special attention was given to drafting a comprehensive national action plan to guide policy implementation and institutional strengthening within the cooperative sector.
