The Sacred Sarvagna Relics of the Buddha, brought to Sri Lanka with the full patronage of the Government of India following the intervention of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were venerated this afternoon (04) at the historic Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo.

This significant religious event coincides with Sri Lanka’s 78th National Independence Day, marking a proud and symbolic moment for both nations. The opportunity for Sri Lankan Buddhists to pay homage to the Sacred Relics at the Gangaramaya Temple stands as a special testament to the unique and longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and India.

The gesture by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to offer a sacred heritage from his homeland for the veneration of the Sri Lankan Buddhist community reflects the deep respect, goodwill, and affection he holds toward Sri Lanka and its people.

Expressing gratitude for making this historic occasion possible, appreciation was extended to the Government of India, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on behalf of the people of Sri Lanka. Special thanks were also conveyed to the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and other diplomatic representatives for their coordination with the Sri Lankan Government in facilitating the Sacred Relic exposition.
