Xi Jinping extends Independence Day greetings to Sri Lanka

Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended warm greetings to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the people of Sri Lanka on the occasion of the country’s 78th Independence Day.

In his message, President Xi said that China and Sri Lanka are mutually beneficial, win-win partners and trusted friends on the path of development and national rejuvenation.

Recalling President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s state visit to China in January 2025, Xi noted that the visit resulted in fruitful discussions and a comprehensive consensus on further strengthening bilateral relations. He emphasized that he attaches great importance to the development of China–Sri Lanka ties.

President Xi further stated that he is ready to continue working closely with President Dissanayake to enhance the China–Sri Lanka strategic cooperative partnership and to build a community with a shared future, bringing greater benefits to the peoples of both countries.

Meanwhile, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has also sent a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya to mark Sri Lanka’s Independence Day.
