In line with the 78th Independence Day celebrations on 04 February 2026, the Sri Lanka Army has promoted a total of 9,158 Other Ranks from both the Regular and Volunteer Forces to their respective next ranks.
According to the Army, the promotions were granted in recognition of the dedication, discipline, and service rendered by personnel across all formations.
Under the category of Other Ranks, 260 Warrant Officers II were promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer I, while 1,211 Staff Sergeants were elevated to Warrant Officer II. A further 1,704 Sergeants were promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Additionally, 2,339 Corporals advanced to the rank of Sergeant, 2,204 Lance Corporals were promoted to Corporal, and 1,440 Privates were elevated to the rank of Lance Corporal from both the Regular and Volunteer Forces..
