Sri Lanka marks its 78th Independence Day today, February 4, with a dignified national ceremony held at the Independence Square in Colombo. This year’s celebrations are held under the forward-looking theme, "Let’s Build Sri Lanka"

The main event is being held under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake,. The ceremony is attended by a distinguished gathering, including political representatives, foreign diplomats, and both local and international dignitaries.

The event is designed to reflect the country’s rich heritage, emphasizing national unity, reconciliation, and religious coexistence.

A ceremonial Guard of Honor and a grand parade featuring the Tri-Forces and Police are key parts of the proceedings.

A traditional naval gun salute is scheduled to take place at Galle Face Green at 11:30 AM today to honor the nation.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the ceremony, a special traffic plan is currently in effect around Independence Square and its suburbs. Residents and commuters are advised to use alternative routes until the conclusion of the event.

The 78th anniversary serves as a pivotal moment for the nation, focusing on collective resilience and the shared goal of rebuilding the country's economic and social fabric.
