The Court of Appeal has issued a writ order nullifying the decision of the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court to summon former President Maithripala Sirisena in connection with a private complaint alleging culpable homicide for failing to prevent the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

The order was delivered by a five-judge bench of the Court of Appeal while ruling on a writ petition filed by the former President.

However, the Court of Appeal clarified that the judgment would not prevent the continuation of the relevant case before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court if new evidence is presented in the future.
