The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) says teenage pregnancies have increased in 2025 compared to the previous year.
According to the NCPA, 79 teenage pregnancies were reported in 2025, up from 53 cases recorded in 2024.
Presenting its annual report on child abuse and related violence, the Authority also revealed that nine child marriages and three abortion cases were reported during the past year.
The NCPA further stated that 150 incidents of child abuse through cyberspace were reported last year, while 116 cases related to drug-related offences involving children were recorded.
In addition, 54 incidents of domestic violence involving children and 20 attempted suicide cases were reported during the same period.
Overall, the National Child Protection Authority received 10,455 complaints related to child abuse in the past year. Of these, 1,941 complaints were identified as not falling directly within the Authority’s mandate.
