The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to positioning Sri Lanka as a sustainable tourism destination and a stable international partner, during the South Asia Regional Conference of the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC) 2026 currently underway in Colombo.
Speaking at the conference, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, MP Vijitha Herath, said Sri Lanka is focused on strengthening its global profile while ensuring environmentally responsible and sustainable tourism development.
He noted that the Government is pursuing policies aimed at long-term economic, social, and environmental sustainability, while enhancing cooperation with international partners across multiple sectors.
The FICAC South Asia Regional Conference, hosted by the Association of Consuls in Sri Lanka and the World Federation of Consuls, is being held from February 1 to 4 at Cinnamon Life, Colombo, with the participation of senior diplomats, business leaders, and policymakers.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra, FICAC President Nikolaos K. Margaropoulos, Association of Consuls in Sri Lanka President Mahen Kariyawasam, and members of the diplomatic corps.
