More than 13,500 residents living in Urban Development Authority (UDA) apartment complexes are set to gain access to online payment facilities under the second phase of the UDA’s digitalisation programme, Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Ratnayake announced yesterday.
Under the upcoming phase, residents will be able to use the UDA’s digital platform to make payments for essential services, including water, electricity and assessment taxes, through secure online systems.
Addressing the launch of the UDA’s online payment service at the Peliyagoda Manning Public Market Complex, Minister Ratnayake emphasised that time management and technology are critical to the efficient functioning of both public institutions and businesses.
“Time is money. Moving forward with technology to ensure safe, simple and delay-free payment processes is the need of the hour,” he said, adding that digitalisation is a major national initiative led by the President and the government.
The Minister called on the public, business community and trade unions to support the programme, stressing that trust-based transactions backed by technology are essential for economic progress and better public service delivery.
