A protest organized by the Education Graduates' Union broke out today (February 2) in front of the Ministry of Education at 'Isurupaya' in Battaramulla, causing significant traffic congestion in the surrounding area.

The demonstrators, representing graduates who have completed degrees at state universities, are demanding a permanent and systematic annual recruitment process for their entry into the Sri Lanka Teacher Service.

The union members highlighted several grievances regarding the current recruitment. Protesters called for the swift absorption of current education graduates into the teaching workforce to fill existing vacancies in state schools.

They are urging the government to establish a consistent, yearly framework for recruitment to prevent backlogs and employment uncertainty for future graduates.

"We are not asking for a one-time solution. We need a transparent, annual system so that every student who completes an Education degree knows their path to a classroom is secured," stated a representative of the union during the demonstration.
