Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara emphasized that the current government is committed to implementing purposeful and sustainable development projects in line with the mandate given by the people.

Speaking at the commencement ceremony of the Torrington Mawatha Housing Complex in Colombo, he stated that the era of projects driven by construction companies and political interests has ended. “The government is working to achieve the national goal of a prosperous country and a beautiful life by implementing development projects with public participation,” he said.

The Deputy Minister further highlighted that coordinated programs are being carried out across government institutions to meet the basic needs of citizens. He stressed that past eras of political and economic corruption deprived people of many benefits, but the current administration is accountable to taxpayers and ensures that development projects provide equitable benefits, free from political influence.

According to Gunasekara, this approach reflects the government’s responsibility to deliver projects transparently, improve living standards, and uphold public trust, signaling a new era of people-focused governance.
