Sri Lanka Police have announced that a special security arrangement and traffic management plan will be implemented in view of the public exhibition of the Sacred Relics of the Buddha, which are being brought from India and will be displayed at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo.
The Sacred Relics are scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on the 4th, and will be open for public veneration from 6.00 a.m. on February 5 until 7.00 a.m. on February 11 at the Gangaramaya Temple.
According to the Police Media Division, enhanced security measures and traffic control will be enforced in the surrounding areas of the temple throughout the exhibition period.
Several access roads to the temple will be temporarily closed during this time, including Jinarathana Mawatha, Hunupitiya Lake Road Junction, Lake Crescent Junction, and Park Street, among other locations.
In addition, the movement of heavy vehicles will be restricted along Uththarananda Mawatha, Nawam Mawatha, Peiris Mawatha, and several other roads in the vicinity.
To facilitate devotees attending the exhibition, designated parking areas have been arranged. Free parking will be available at Port City, land near the Shangri-La Hotel, the former MOD premises, Green Path, and near Viharamahadevi Park.
Paid parking facilities have been allocated at private car parks near the Gamini Roundabout, in front of Lake House, and at the former Manning Market premises, police said.
The Sri Lanka Police request the public to follow the provided guidelines to ensure smooth and uninterrupted veneration of the Sacred Relics. Devotees are informed that mobile phones, travel bags, jackets, and electronic devices are strictly prohibited inside the exhibition chamber.
