The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe lightning advisory for several regions, effective until 11:00 PM tonight (01). Residents in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts, are urged to remain vigilant as atmospheric conditions become favorable for intense electrical storms.

According to the weather forecast, these specific areas are likely to experience heavy thundershowers accompanied by frequent and powerful lightning strikes. The department further cautioned that these storms may be preceded or accompanied by sudden, strong winds, which could pose additional risks to property and personal safety.

In light of these conditions, the Department of Meteorology has requested the general public to take all necessary precautions to minimize the risk of lightning-related accidents. This includes seeking shelter in permanent buildings, avoiding open fields or water bodies, and disconnecting electronic appliances during the warning period to ensure safety.
