It was reported that the latest summons was issued after she failed to appear on a previously scheduled date. Shiranthi Rajapaksa had earlier been summoned to provide a statement before the FCID on January 27. However, she informed the police through her legal counsel that she was unable to appear on that day and requested additional time. Authorities subsequently granted her a two-week extension.
Police sources said that as a medical report was not submitted in support of her inability to attend, the FCID has issued a fresh summons requiring her appearance on February 3.
Meanwhile, National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has also been notified to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on February 3.
Although MP Namal Rajapaksa had previously been summoned to appear before the CID, it is reported that the new notification was issued following a request for an alternative date, as he was out of the country at the time of the earlier summons.
