Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that developing a quality human resource is essential to safeguard the country’s economic, social, and cultural security, emphasizing that education plays a decisive role in achieving this objective.
Addressing the EDCS Sisu Nena Pranama scholarship award ceremony held today (31) at Temple Trees, the Prime Minister said the government is firmly committed to transforming the education sector and will continue to move forward with a clear vision, overcoming challenges along the way.
Highlighting the rapidly changing global context, Dr. Amarasuriya stressed the growing need to strengthen human resource development in the face of economic and environmental crises. She noted that the education system must be transformed beginning at the school level to meet modern demands, and that students entering universities must take leadership in driving this transformation.
The Prime Minister further pointed out that although nearly 300,000 students enter primary education annually, only around 40,000 gain admission to state universities, urging those selected to make full use of this opportunity for the country’s development.
The event was organized to honor the children of members of the Education Service Employees’ Co-operative Thrift and Credit Society Ltd. who have been selected to state universities for the 2023/2024 academic year.
