Kandy Police said that the body of an unidentified male was discovered in the Nuwara Wewa near Sangaraja Mawatha in Kandy.
The body was found in the Kandy tank opposite the Sangaraja Pirivena hostel along Sangaraja Mawatha. The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, police said.
Kandy Coroner Norman Costa arrived at the scene and conducted preliminary investigations. The body was subsequently referred to the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) of the Kandy National Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Central Province, Sudath Masinghe, also visited the location and instructed officers to carry out all necessary legal procedures. Investigations are ongoing.
