Secretary of the Sri Lanka School Development Officers Association, Viraj Manaranga, has stated that a discussion with the President must be held before the day after tomorrow, warning that further action will be taken if the request is not met.
He said that a Presidential Director General had visited the protest site yesterday and informed the protesters that a discussion would be held on Tuesday. However, Manaranga stressed that if the discussion is not arranged before then, a protest will be staged in Colombo the day after tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the fast-to-death campaign launched by the school development officers entered its sixth consecutive day today, with the protesters continuing their action.
In a show of religious and moral support, Venerable Itthekande Saddhatissa Thero visited the protest site to inquire into the health and well-being of the development officers engaged in the fast.
Additionally, a group of representatives from the All Ceylon Development Officers Association met yesterday afternoon with the Mahanayake of the Asgiri Chapter, Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero, to brief him on the issues faced by development officers. The group later met with the Registrar of the Asgiri Chapter, Venerable Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thero, and informed him of the same concerns.
