Sri Lankan police announced a special traffic management plan in Colombo ahead of the 78th Independence Day celebrations, with measures to be in effect on specific dates and times.
The police say the special traffic arrangement will be in force yesterday (30th) for preparation and event activities in Colombo.
On the second day (today, the 31st), traffic restrictions will be imposed from 7:45 AM to 1:30 PM.
Additionally, on the next day (1st) from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, and on February 4 (Independence Day), from 5:00 AM until the end of the Independence Day celebrations, traffic restrictions will apply as appropriate.
Expect restrictions on major routes and possible detours during the specified windows.
Authorities advise motorists to plan alternate routes, follow official directions, and allow extra travel time.
Public transport and emergency services will be coordinated to minimize disruption, but delays may occur in the affected areas.
Officials emphasize adhering to posted notices, traffic wardens, and temporary signage, and they thank the public for their cooperation during the national celebrations.
