According to the Commission, applications will be accepted from January 28 to February 28, and all duly completed applications must be submitted on or before 3.00 p.m. on February 28.
The application form must be submitted together with the required documents prepared in accordance with the criteria set out in Gazette No. 2472/21 dated January 21, 2026, and should bear the signature of the Secretary of the relevant political party.
The Election Commission stated that application forms can be obtained from its official website, District Election Offices, or the Election Secretariat.
If a party is granted recognition, the symbol expected to be allocated to that party must be clearly indicated from among the approved party symbols listed in Appendix (b) of Extraordinary Gazette No. 2471/24 dated January 13, 2026.
Applicants are required to submit their party constitution, a list of office bearers, details of women office bearers for the past four years, audited financial statements for the four years preceding the application, the party’s current policy statement, and documents proving continuous operation as a political party for at least the last four years. These documents must be submitted as separate files.
The Commission further stated that applications may be sent by the party Secretary via registered post or delivered in person. The envelope should clearly state “Application for Recognition of Political Parties – 2026” on the top left corner and be addressed to the Chairman, Election Commission, Sarana Mawatha, Rajagiriya.
