The High Court has ordered a fine of Rs. 24 million against Tamim Rahman, owner of the Dambulla Thunders cricket team, after he pleaded guilty to inciting a player to engage in match-fixing during the 2024 Sri Lanka Premier League (LPL).

In addition to the fine, Rahman was sentenced to four years in prison, with the court deciding to suspend the sentence for five years.

Reports indicate that Rahman admitted to the match-fixing charges during the proceedings.

The Attorney General’s Department had filed indictments against Rahman before the High Court in connection with the alleged match-fixing incident that took place during last year’s LPL tournament.
