SL signs debt restructuring agreement with Belgian CREDENDO

The Government of Sri Lanka and the Belgian CREDENDO - Export Credit Agency have concluded a bilateral agreement on debt restructuring, marking a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s external debt restructuring process.

The agreement reflects the government’s continued commitment to restoring debt sustainability and rebuilding the Sri Lankan economy.

Following the Memorandum of Understanding with the Committee of Official Creditors and bilateral discussions, CREDENDO has agreed to provide debt relief through the restructuring of outstanding obligations. The total estimated amount of debt restructured under this agreement is approximately EUR 9.6 million.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka, and Mr. Dirk Terweduwe, Chief Executive Officer of CREDENDO, Belgium.

The signing is expected to further strengthen the long-standing bilateral relations between Belgium and Sri Lanka. The Government of Sri Lanka expressed sincere gratitude for Belgium’s continued cooperation and partnership in this critical process.
