Addressing the annual diploma presentation ceremony of the Department of Technical Education and Training at the BMICH today (27), she noted that technical education in Sri Lanka has a history spanning more than a century and commended the technical college network for its role in creating employment opportunities for youth.
The Prime Minister stressed that in the face of future uncertainties, curiosity and the desire to learn new skills should never be abandoned, adding that the most important contribution of vocational institutions is teaching students “how to learn.”
She expressed confidence that the new diploma holders would become valuable contributors to the country’s economic and social development.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Nalin Hewage, Dean of the Faculty of Technology of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Director General of the Department of Technical Education and Training T. Babu, along with officials, parents, and students.
