Marking 65 years of service, the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society has made a significant impact both locally and internationally, donating over 100,000 corneas for transplantation abroad.
Ayodya Sampath De Silva of the society said the Eye Bank supplied 101,483 corneas to countries including Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, and Pakistan, while 65,546 corneas were donated within Sri Lanka. Additionally, the Tissue Bank provided 19,887 tissues for medical use.
Looking ahead, the society aims to expand its community outreach in 2026 by performing 1,750 free cataract surgeries and distributing 30,000 free spectacles through 100 nationwide programs, helping thousands improve their vision and quality of life.
