The government today (27) launched the national program titled “Godanagamu Adhishtanaye Sandehi” with the objective of swiftly restoring religious places of worship damaged by Cyclone Dithva and reopening them for devotees’ religious observances.

The program is being implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs.

The initiative is scheduled to commence at 10.00 a.m. at the Sri Bodhirukkarama Temple in the Peacock Hill housing scheme in Doragala, Gampola, and will continue at 3.00 p.m. at the Kavatayamuna Purana Rajamaha Viharaya in Matale.

According to authorities, more than 1,000 religious, cultural, and archaeological sites have been damaged due to the recent disaster. The government aims to begin restoration work without delay and reinstate these sites to their original condition.

All reconstruction activities will be carried out while safeguarding the historical and cultural value of each site. The process will take place under the guidance of the Most Venerable Maha Sangha and other religious leaders, with the active participation and support of all relevant stakeholders.
