Sri Lanka’s export earnings surpass USD 17.25 B in 2025

Sri Lanka’s total export earnings for 2025 are estimated at USD 17,252.15 million, according to the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), based on provisional data from Sri Lanka Customs and export performance statistics. The earnings include contributions from key sectors such as gems and jewellery, petroleum products, and other export industries.

Throughout 2025, Sri Lanka’s export sector maintained strong momentum, recording an annual growth rate of 5.6 percent. The EDB noted that this performance reflects sustainable growth and improving external trade conditions.

In December 2025 alone, total export earnings from both merchandise and services amounted to USD 1,490.49 million, marking a 3.95 percent increase compared to December 2024.

The EDB stated that this performance highlights the strength of Sri Lanka’s export sector and demonstrates the effectiveness of strategies implemented to expand market access and enhance global competitiveness.

Commenting on the achievement, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Export Development Board, Mangala Wijesinghe, said that Sri Lanka’s export earnings reached USD 17,252.15 million in 2025, exceeding 94.79 percent of the national export target.

He further emphasized that the recovery of key export markets, increased sustainable production capacity, and the effective implementation of export development strategies have reinforced the resilience and competitiveness of Sri Lanka’s export sector.
