A 27-year-old Bangladeshi national was arrested this morning at Katunayake Airport after attempting to leave the country using a forged Spanish visa.
The individual had arrived in Sri Lanka earlier today and was preparing to depart for Doha, Qatar, on Qatar Airways flight QR-665 at 10:15 a.m.
Immigration and Emigration Department officers, acting on suspicions regarding his travel documents, handed the materials to Qatar Airways officials for verification. Technical checks confirmed that the Spanish visa presented was forged.
The suspect had planned to travel to Spain via Doha using the fraudulent visa. Following the discovery, Immigration and Emigration officials handed the case over to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Authorities are continuing inquiries into the matter.
