More than 1,000 religious, cultural, and archaeological sites were damaged by Cyclone Ditwah, the Presidential Media Division (PMD) said yesterday, highlighting the extensive impact of the natural disaster on the country’s religious and cultural heritage.
In response, a national programme titled ‘Godanagamu Adhisthanaye Sanhinda’ has been launched to expedite reconstruction efforts. The inauguration of the programme will be held tomorrow (27) under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The PMD said the programme is being implemented under the leadership of the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs, with the objective of restoring damaged sites to facilitate worship and other religious activities.
