Speaking on the matter, GMOA Secretary Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa said the trade union action will affect services at government hospitals across the country. As part of the action, GMOA members will suspend prescribing medicines that need to be purchased from external pharmacies and will also refrain from ordering certain laboratory tests for patients.
Dr. Sugathadasa noted that the GMOA’s Central Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday (January 28) to further discuss the situation. He added that if the authorities continue to disregard their demands, the association will not hesitate to intensify the ongoing trade union action.
The GMOA has urged the Ministry of Health to take immediate steps to resolve the issues in order to minimize inconvenience to patients and the public.
