According to Kollupitiya Police, two unidentified individuals arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire at a building housing a music academy, as well as at its gate, using a T-56 firearm, before fleeing the scene.
Police said around 16 spent bullet casings were recovered from the vicinity of the building. The shooting reportedly took place at approximately 2.35 a.m.
The motive behind the attack has not yet been identified. No injuries or casualties were reported as a result of the incident.
