Police have arrested the suspect involved in the shooting of a 16-year-old girl in the Bodhiwatte area of Kohuwala, following investigations by officers of the Western Province Southern Crime Division.
According to police, the arrested individual is a 35-year-old resident of Dehiwala and a deserter from the Sri Lanka Army. During further questioning, the revolver believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered from a deserted house in the Dehiwala area.
Investigators also revealed that the suspect is linked to another shooting incident that occurred near the Quatus Stadium in Dehiwala last September, in which a person was shot dead.
Initial investigations revealed that both shootings were carried out under the direction of an organized criminal currently residing abroad.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today (24).
