The University of Sri Jayewardenepura has officially opened its new Engineering Faculty building complex, marking a major milestone in Sri Lanka’s higher education sector.

Built on a 10-acre site in the Kottawa area, the new complex is equipped with modern, state-of-the-art facilities. The Engineering Faculty was established in 2016 as the university’s seventh faculty, but previously did not have a dedicated building or lecture hall facilities.

Addressing that long-standing need, the new complex has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 8 billion, funded through a loan facility from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Science and Technology Human Resource Development Project.

The facility also features a modern auditorium with seating capacity for 800.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Senior Professor Padmalal M. Manage, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Nalaka Kaluwewa, and ADB Acting Country Director Wolpon Mambetova, along with several academics and officials, attended the opening ceremony.
