Northern investment summit 2026 (NIS26) kicks off in Jaffna

The Northern Investment Summit 2026 (NIS26) commenced yesterday (21) at the Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre in Jaffna under the patronage of Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunnetti.

The two-day summit is being held on January 21 and 22, aiming to promote investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province among local and foreign investors. Organizers said the event also focuses on increasing the province’s contribution to the national economy, creating employment opportunities, and encouraging youth and women entrepreneurs.

The summit is powered by The Management Club, with sponsorship and support from a range of state and private institutions including the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, the Consulate General of India in Jaffna, the Northern Provincial Council, the Board of Investment (BOI), the Export Development Board (EDB), and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, among others.

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Fisheries Ramalingam Chandrasekaram, Secretary to the Prime Minister G.A. Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Harshana Suriyapperuma, Consul General of India in Jaffna Shri Sai Murali, Northern Province Governor Nagalingam Vethanayagam, along with senior government officials, diplomats, and investors.
