The Sri Lankan government earned Rs. 904 billion in revenue from vehicle imports in 2025, far exceeding initial expectations, according to Deputy Minister Nishantha Jayaweera.
The projected revenue from vehicle imports for 2025 had been estimated at Rs. 441 billion. However, by the end of the year, actual earnings more than doubled this figure, generating an additional Rs. 463 billion in revenue for the state.
The Deputy Minister made this statement in Parliament this morning (January 20) while responding to a question raised by MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena.
He emphasized that the higher-than-expected income from vehicle imports was a significant achievement for government revenue in 2025.
