The Southern Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority has launched a new technology-driven system to monitor bus operations more effectively across the Southern Province.
The initiative includes a mobile application named ‘SP Bus’, which was officially introduced at a ceremony held at the Matara Main Bus Stand under the patronage of Member of Parliament Ajantha Gammaddage.
Along with the app launch, the installation of GPS devices in buses commenced today, enabling authorities to track bus movements in real time. The system will allow officials to monitor bus speeds, detect instances of buses competing on routes, and identify delays or failures to begin services on schedule.
The Authority said the technology will strengthen regulation and improve the overall efficiency of public transport services in the province.
In addition to administrative benefits, passengers will also be able to use the application to access real-time information, including estimated arrival times and service availability at their bus stops.
The Authority further stated that all Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses operating within the Southern Province will be monitored throughout their journeys under this new system.
