Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting incident in Jinthupitiya that resulted in the death of a man and injuries to two children.
The arrests were made during special raids carried out by officers of the Coastal Police Station in the Jinthupitiya and Kotahena areas on the 18th and 19th.
Police said one suspect was arrested in possession of 4 grams and 800 milligrams of heroin for allegedly aiding and abetting the crime. In addition, three male suspects and a female suspect were also taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
The female suspect is 49 years old, while the male suspects are aged 18, 33, 40, and 43. All suspects are residents of Colombo 13.
The suspects were produced before the Aluthgama No. 01 Magistrate’s Court yesterday (19). A detention order has been obtained for one suspect until the 23rd, while the remaining suspects have been remanded until the 26th.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Coastal Police and the Colombo North Division Criminal Investigation Bureau.
