Air quality in several urban areas across Sri Lanka remained at slightly unhealthy levels during the past 24 hours, according to data released by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO).
Cities including Colombo, Jaffna, Kandy, Kurunegala, and Galle recorded Sri Lanka Air Quality Index (SL AQI) values ranging between 104 and 144, mainly due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5).
Meanwhile, air quality in areas such as Nuwara Eliya, Mullaitivu, Batticaloa, as well as several towns in the southern and eastern regions, remained at moderate levels.
According to NBRO forecasts, slightly unhealthy air quality conditions are expected to persist over the next 24 hours in most cities, with SL AQI values projected to range between 48 and 140.
