Sri Lankan ambassador to Israel Mr.Nimal Bandara told Ziradaily that Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel has issued an important clarification regarding visa and re-entry requirements for Sri Lankan workers employed in Israel, following a growing number of cases where workers face difficulties returning after travelling abroad.
According to the Embassy, although Sri Lankan nationals are regularly informed about visa regulations, many continue to misunderstand the rules related to visa validity and re-entry permissions.
Visa Categories
When applying to travel abroad, visas are generally issued under three categories:
Single Entry Visa
Double Entry Visa
Multiple Entry Visa
However, Sri Lankans who enter Israel for employment are issued only a Single Entry Visa, even when the visa is extended for up to one year after arrival.
Single Entry Limitation
Once a worker enters Israel through an airport, the re-entry component of the visa becomes invalid. This means that even if the visa is still valid, the individual cannot leave and re-enter Israel without a separate re-entry permit.
Re-Entry Visa Requirement
Any worker who plans to leave Israel and return must obtain a Re-Entry Visa in advance. This application must be submitted through the employer to the Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA).
The processing time usually takes between 3 to 12 working days.
Workers who leave Israel without securing this permit will not be allowed to return, even if their work visa is still active.
The Embassy noted that many workers apply for the re-entry visa only after leaving Israel, resulting in them being stranded in Sri Lanka until approval is granted.
Strong Advisory
The Embassy strongly advises all Sri Lankan nationals in Israel not to travel outside the country without first obtaining the required re-entry visa.
For further information or assistance, workers are encouraged to contact the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel during official working hours at:
