The Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Shobini Gunasekera presented her Letters of Credence to President Vladimir Putin, of the Russian Federation at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow, during a solemn ceremony held in accordance with established diplomatic protocol.
The President was accompanied at the Ceremony by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov and Foreign Policy Advisor Yury Ushakov.

The presentation of credentials was followed by a formal address by the President of the Russian Federation to the Ambassadors of thirty-two countries who participated in the ceremony. In his address, the President reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to engage constructively with partner nations and pledged cooperation aimed at consolidating and strengthening bilateral relations.

Following the formal proceedings, an informal interaction took place during which the President and the envoys exchanged greetings. During this exchange, Ambassador Gunasekera of Sri Lanka conveyed the formal greetings of President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka and the people of Sri Lanka to the President and the people of the Russian Federation.
She expressed Sri Lanka’s sincere appreciation for the solidarity extended by Russia during the aftermath of the Ditwah cyclone and underscored the value Sri Lanka places on such support.
The Ambassador further conveyed Sri Lanka’s desire to renew ties and strengthen bilateral relations, building on longstanding friendship and cooperation. The President of the Russian Federation acknowledged these sentiments and reaffirmed his commitment to further enhancing relations between the two countries.
The ceremony and subsequent interactions reflected the shared commitment of the Russian Federation to deepen engagement and advance cooperation across areas of mutual interest with partners across regions, and strengthening relations based on mutual respect and co-operation.
