Sri Lanka welcomed 2.3 million tourists in 2025, recording a year-on-year growth of over 15 percent, according to the Tourism Authority. India emerged as the largest source market with 531,511 visitors, more than double the arrivals from any other country.

The United Kingdom ranked second, while Europe and the Asia-Pacific region together accounted for nearly 93 percent of total arrivals. December recorded the highest monthly tourist inflow with 258,928 visitors.

Tourism momentum continued into 2026, with 131,898 tourists arriving in the first 15 days alone. India once again led arrivals, followed by Russia, the UK, and Germany, reflecting Sri Lanka’s strong appeal as a leisure destination
